How to Perform Outreach to Local Sponsors

How to Perform Outreach to Local Sponsors

Sponsor outreach is one of the most effective ways to raise funds for your school. By connecting directly with local businesses, you give them the chance to support student-athletes while promoting their brand in the community.

Goal: Get the business decision maker to visit your sponsor sales page and place an order.

Use the resources available in your Play1 Project Portal (use links below when logged in)

Steps to Outreach

1. Review Your Contact List

  • Filter by category (restaurants, retail, real estate, insurance, professional services, etc.) and zip code to keep efforts local.

  • Businesses close to your school are most likely to participate.

2. Identify Top Prospects

  • Start with people you or your team already know—parents, alumni, or business owners connected to your school.

  • Prioritize professional services, owner-operators, and real estate agents—they often value visibility.

  • Highlight businesses you personally frequent (restaurants, gyms, salons, etc.).

3. Craft Your Messages

Use the Play1 templates in your portal for:

  • Email

  • Text

  • Phone calls

These templates are pre-written and designed for high response rates. Be sure to personalize them with your school name, team name, or a community tie.

4. Send & Follow Up

  • Deliver your outreach via multiple channels: email, text, phone, or even a quick in-person drop-in.

  • The key objective is to get the business decision maker to click your sales page link.

  • Always follow up politely if you don’t hear back.
